Cannon Beach Oregon ... Sunday 1030m 07Feb2010. Temp - 50. Sunrise 731a. Sunset 529p. Sunday is just that - a beautiful sunny day. I had to remove my jacket on my bike ride back from Hug Point. I didn't get wet today, but that can't be said for Dave who I met at the old stage coach road cut out of solid rock at Hug Point. Photo #3 shows the wave just before it came over the road and wet Dave to the knees. Even though it was very close to low tide, there was still a lot of wave action and not a lot of beach. Photos #1 and #3 are of the same section of road but from opposite directions. I have not been able to find the name of the rock in photo#2, so may have to name it myself. Any suggestions? It is quite unusual in that the color is unlike almost all the other rocks in the area. It is located between Humbug Point (Lion Rock) and Hug Point. Speaking of Humbug Point, there is a large landslide on the north side. A section about 50' wide is barren of vegetation all the way from the top. All the vegetation is piled up at the bottom and still quite green. For today's surf shot go to the SurfCam page. Cannon Beach Oregon ... Sunday 130pm 31Jan2010. Temp - 51. Sunrise 739a. Sunset 518p. January comes to an end and goes out as one of the mildest in many years. Lots of folks caught by surprise by the mild temperatures and great sunsets. Today's photos are from Silver Point. There was evidence of a very recent slide where a rock the size of large fire file had slid down the hill about 20 feet leaving a trail behind it. The tide was in, so I wasn't able to see if enough sand has bee carried away to expose the smooth rock surface I am hoping to photograph this winter. Stay tuned, I'll keep looking. February 13-15th is a three-day weekend with Valentines Day and Presidents Day. Make your reservations now. Cannon Beach's value season is here for the taking. Don't miss out. .... Cannon Beach Oregon ... Tuesday 5pm 26Jan2010. Temp - 50. Sunrise 746a. Sunset 511p. We're having typical January winter weather. Temps in the 40's and 50's with showers and an occassional sun break. Tonights sunset was very nice. Winter often provides great sunsets. January and February are the slowest months, but the restaruants, shops and galleries are open and ready to give you quality service. A last minute trip to the beach can be a rewarding experience indeed. .... For today's surf shot go to the SurfCam page. Cannon Beach Oregon ... Sunday 10am 17Jan2010. Temp - 50. Sunrise 752a. Sunset 459p. It's a three day weekend and the weather is mild with some wind out of the south. Winter storms continue to deliver and rearrange driftwood of all sizes. There are some very large logs, stumps and trunks on the beach right now. Photo #3 gives you some sense of the density. The awesome beauty of the Pacific in winter in on display from sunup to sundown. Many shops, restaurants and galleries are open daily. Some close on Tues and/or Wed during winter. Cannon Beach Oregon ... Saturday 1pm 09Jan2010. Temp - 55. Sunrise 756a. Sunset 449p. It's a very pleasant 55 degrees, no wind and lots of interesting logs and sticks from recent storms. Today's photos are Silver Point. Silver Point is the south end of Cannon Beach where Silver Point Rock and Jockey Cap Rock are located. Sand continues to wash out as is typical during Winter. I am hoping that Silver Point's smooth, grooved, contoured rock base will be exposed this winter. For today's surf shot go to the SurfCam page. Cannon Beach Oregon ... Thursday 1120am 24Dec2009. Temp - 33. Sunrise 755a. Sunset 435p. Beautiful day at the beach today. Frost on the rooftops and logs this morning except where the sun is hitting. I rode south to Silver Point. Winter storms and big wave action have claimed sand as is the case every winter. There is between 2 and 3 feet of sand gone that was there several months ago. Rocks that were buried then are now prominent features in the rocky landscape. Pictures 1 and 3 are Silver Point Rock. Picture 2 is Jockey Cap. Picture 4 is frost on a burned out log. Today is a fitting day for Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good life! For today's surf shot go to the SurfCam page.
