Cannon Beach Oregon ... Saturday 12pm 31January2009. Temp - 42. Sunrise 739a. Sunset 519p. Nice day. I biked to Silver Point for these images. The first is bit of a fixer-upper just south of Silver Point. This is the outside of the place I photographed inside last week. Image 2 is a mix of sand and earth as it is draining onto the beach. Image 3 is from Silver Point looking north to Cannon Beach. Note the rainbow on the left. The sand dollar in image 4 was laying on that log when I arrived. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon ... Sunday 1115am 18January2009. Temp - 57. Nice day! slight wind out of the east. Lots of people out enjoying the warm calm day after so much cold and rain in Portland and the rest of Oregon and Washington in the past month or more. These photos are from my bike ride south to Arcadia Beach. Photo 4 is an old abandoned cabin on the front that is missing the front wall. It is slowing secumbing to the forces of nature, but still quite interesting. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon ... Thursday 2pm 08January2009. Temp - 43. The rain has stopped. Even had the sun peek out. The road to Seaside is open, but remains under water in several spots. There is a minus tide today at 4pm so that should allow the water to recede. High tide tonight at 11pm could bring it back up a bit, but the worst should be over for now. The road was never closed totally, but only trucks and high-profile vehicles were permitted. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon ... 945am 03January2009. Temp - 35. Cold but still. Sun is breaking out. Today's photos were shot yesterday from above town, 3.5 miles up Tolovana Mainline - the gated logging road east of here. There was little to no snow until I got about 3 miles up the road. Environmental laws have changed logging. Single trees must be left standing as bird habitat, the ground must remain covered with a certain amount of the tree trimmings as refuge for small animals, buffers must be left next to streams to minimize erosion and contamination. After the December 2, 2007 Big Wind Storm, many of these trees were blown down and now criss-cross the streams. Photo 4 is the stream along Tolovana Mainline. just below the snow line. With the snow melt-off, there is quite a bit of water rushing down the stream now. For today's surf shot go to the
