Cannon Beach Oregon ... Sunday 1030m 07Feb2010. Temp - 50. Sunrise 731a. Sunset 529p. Sunday is just that - a beautiful sunny day. I had to remove my jacket on my bike ride back from Hug Point. I didn't get wet today, but that can't be said for Dave who I met at the old stage coach road cut out of solid rock at Hug Point. Photo #3 shows the wave just before it came over the road and wet Dave to the knees. Even though it was very close to low tide, there was still a lot of wave action and not a lot of beach. Photos #1 and #3 are of the same section of road but from opposite directions. I have not been able to find the name of the rock in photo#2, so may have to name it myself. Any suggestions? It is quite unusual in that the color is unlike almost all the other rocks in the area. It is located between Humbug Point (Lion Rock) and Hug Point. Speaking of Humbug Point, there is a large landslide on the north side. A section about 50' wide is barren of vegetation all the way from the top. All the vegetation is piled up at the bottom and still quite green. For today's surf shot go to the SurfCam page. Cannon Beach Oregon ... Sunday 130pm 31Jan2010. Temp - 51. Sunrise 739a. Sunset 518p. January comes to an end and goes out as one of the mildest in many years. Lots of folks caught by surprise by the mild temperatures and great sunsets. Today's photos are from Silver Point. There was evidence of a very recent slide where a rock the size of large fire file had slid down the hill about 20 feet leaving a trail behind it. The tide was in, so I wasn't able to see if enough sand has bee carried away to expose the smooth rock surface I am hoping to photograph this winter. Stay tuned, I'll keep looking. February 13-15th is a three-day weekend with Valentines Day and Presidents Day. Make your reservations now. Cannon Beach's value season is here for the taking. Don't miss out. ....
