Cannon Beach Oregon .. 7am 31Aug2012. Temp - 50. Sunrise 635a. Sunset 754p. Blue Moon over Cannon Beach. Today is the second full moon of the month - known as a blue moon. It looks the same as other full moons and isn't any bluer or whiter for that matter. It dropped behind clouds on the horizon just after I got these shots. Low tide was at 7 affording some very nice wet sand reflections. This is the finale weekend for summer vacations. Temperature is predicted in the high 60's - right where we want it. I am preparing for a month long photo excursion through the Canadian Rockies and on to Ohio for a college reunion. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon .. 130pm 04Aug2012. Temp - 88. Sunrise 602a. Sunset 842p. Record heat brings record crowd to the beach. Today's shots are from south Cannon Beach at the Tolovana Wayside. Parking overflowed to the neighboring streets with more people arriving steadily as temperatures climbed to 102 in Portland. As the day progressed, the wind switched from east (warm) to west (welcome). For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon .. 930am 16Jul2012. Temp - 54. Sunrise 541a. Sunset 903p. Summer is in full swing. Mid July thru mid August is peak season for Cannon Beach and the Oregon Coast. With the sweltering heat in most of the country, Cannon Beach's natural air-conditioning is much to the liking of visitors. When it gets hot in Portland and the Willamette Valley (high 80's and above), fog typically forms along the coast and keeps temps in the 60's - great for a walk on the beach, a cup of coffee and a stroll through the shops and galleries lining Hemlock Street. Cannon Beach Oregon .. 1130am 9Jun2012. Temp - 55. Sunrise 526a. Sunset 904p. Cannon Beach Sandcastle Contest - 48th Annual. What a great day it was for sculptors and browsers. There was clouds, sun breaks, a bit a drizzle at one point, some wind and lots of creativity and fun for all. Of the six master plots, Wabi Sabi's "What Now" won the judges award for best. It is image 4 above. See www.Cannon-Beach.net for more photos. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon .. 8am 5Jun2012. Temp - 55. Sunrise 527a. Sunset 902p. Minus 1.9 tide this morning was the lowest of the year. Couple that with spectacular clouds and you have one happy photographer. I was able to bike from Tolovana to Ecola Point. The tide was low enough to go west of Chapman Point, but not without going through water. The opening there between the headland and the first rock was still impassable because of the deep channel of water. Lots of murres on Bird Rocks but not the numbers that I have seen there in the past. Numbers might increase as we head into summer. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon .. Friday 830am 25May2012. Temp - 50. Sunrise 534a. Sunset 852p. Was surprised to see an eagle soaring low as I approached the beach. Was even more surprised when it landed on the beach between me and Haystack Rock. See photo #3. This is the first time I have ever photographed an eagle on the beach. I see then soaring and perched on high rocks, but not on the beach. I probably could have gotten closer but for the helicoptor that flew over. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon .. Friday 945am 11May2012. Temp - 40. Sunrise 549a. Sunset 838p. Rode south to Hug Point this morning. Lots of rock exposed at various points along the way. Photo 2 is at Hug Point (where a road was blasted into the rock nearly a century ago). Photo 1 & 4 are just north of Hug Point near Arcadia State Wayside. These rocks are normally covered with sand. Photo 3 is of Lion Rock with Jockey Cap, Silver Point and Haystack Rocks beyond. Weather is prediced to be sunny and warm for several days. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon .. Monday 10am 07May2012. Temp - 50. Sunrise 554a. Sunset 831p. Oh so nice on the beach this morning. The birds were busy at Haystack Rock, even an osprey made an appearance. HRAP director Nala said it was the first she has seen in 2 1/2 years here. The puffins and cormorants are building nests. No eagles showed up this morning so the marine garden neighborhood was peacefull. For today's surf shot go to the

Cannon Beach Oregon .. Saturday 9am 21Apr2012. Temp - 54. Sunrise 619a. Sunset 810p. Sun overhead, fog on the beach, but burning off as I made my way back from Haystack Rock. Real nice morning at the Rock. Spotted puffins 10 times, but HRAP voluneer Jenee Pearce says only thre have been spotted at once so far. Once more are back, three rescued puffins will be released to join thier species. For today's surf shot go to the
