Christopher Bibby will be painting at the corner of Hemlock and 3 Street 11AM - 4PM, if it is raining Christopher will be in or just outside DragonFire Gallery. Painter A native of Cheshire in Northwest England, Christopher Bibby has been drawn to the lines and angles of geometric shapes since childhood. He discovered the inspiration to bring these shapes to life with painting when he moved to Glasgow, Scotland at the age of twenty. Bibby became endlessly influenced by the dynamics of the city, the movement of its buildings, the weaving dance of its vehicles, the spirit of its citizens and the energy that merged them all. Here he honed the distinctive patterns and patchwork designs that have become the signature elements of his work. His many travels led him to Portland, Oregon. Taken by the natural beauty and culture of the Pacific Northwest, Bibby established a studio where he now captures the essence of the Northwest with oils, wax, pencils, crayons and mark making tools. Scott Johnson will be painting just outside of White Bird Gallery 251 N. Hemlock Street from 11:00AM-4:00PM. Painter Although Scott C. Johnson's landscape studies are rooted in Plein air painting, early on he began to add the little touches that rouse the imagination-the faint treetops that indicate a valley beyond the hill, or the tiny glint of water that tantalizes over a grassy dune. These hints at an unseen landscape beyond the one we see were an introduction to his dream world. Scott developed the soft washes of the Japanese tradition, as well as the refined line work of the Persian miniature. As he grew more confident with the brush, he also became more involved in meditation techniques, and the painting became more concerned with recording a process, a trance state, a finding of the happy accident, and less with a specific reality. He is a developed sensual being, with an appreciation for music, dance and garden design. Scott's love of nature, refreshed by frequent trips and hikes, is evident in his work; but its mood, often portrayed by impending weather, dominates the objects in the landscape. There are subtle references to change in the clouds and stronger references to death and loneliness in the leafless trees of his latest work, yet the mood is never hopeless, but lets us know that the next season, bringing the tiny leaves of spring, is just beyond and approaching. Please join the artist reception at White Bird Gallery from 4-6pm on Saturday.

Miska will be painting at the courtyard of Dragonfire Gallery on the corner of Hemlock and 1st Street from 11:00AM-4:00PM, Painter Miska attended the University of Washington Art School but is primarily a self-taught painter. After college, she lived in the U.S. Virgin Islands before returning to her native Pacific Northwest in 1998, to pursue life as a full time artist. She has become well known for her rich color palettes and symbolism in portraying what makes us all human. Her use of gold, bronze, copper and pearl tones give her works an amazing reflective quality. Miska's "Picasso like" figures feature circular motifs on faces and chests to convey love and happiness. Her use of umbrellas gives a nod to the Pacific Northwest climate but primarily speaks of shelter, both mental and physical; something deeply important to Miska. The unconditional love and encouragement she received from her parents as a child provided shelter and laid the path for a life in the arts. In addition to her depictions of people, Miska's deep love of nature is shown in her paintings of animals. Please join the artist reception at DragonFire Gallery from 4-6pm on Saturday.

Nano Lopez will be sculpting at the Landing 224 N. Hemlock from 11:00AM - 4:00PM Sculptor Nano Lopez was born in Bogota Colombia. By the last few years of high school he was making serious copies of Michelangelo's sculptures and in 1978, he traveled to Spain and began working for the renowned sculptor Francisco Baron. While with Francisco, Nano carved marble, granite and fabricated steel while working with all three materials on a monumental scale. It was in Madrid the he began casting his own works in bronze and held his first single artist show. After two years, Nano made his way to France, where he continued to study and show his work. At the Superior National School of Beaux Arts in Paris, Nano focused his studies in new materials and discovered the versatility of polyester as a casting medium. He returned to Bogota in the early 80's to build a studio and put to use the methods he had learned in Europe. Several years later, he moved again this time to the Pacific Northwest of the United States. He began to work with Manuel Izquierdo, head of the sculpture department at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Nano's subject matter primarily figurative, describes the essential in the human condition-in a strong and emotionally charged way. Surface texture is an important element in both his two and three-dimensional pieces. The combination of his classical training and experimentation with materials has led to the production of avant-garde art, which combines the aesthetic considerations and rich textural surfaces. Nano's work brings up intense emotions and deep thinking. It captures the inner life of our time and provides us with a mirror of contemporary society and the spirit of modern man.
