Haystack Program in the Arts
What a great program this is! Cannon Beach provides a beautiful natural setting for Portland State University's annual ensemble of weekend and weeklong summer workshops. This year's offerings include classes in visual arts, music, writing and gardening as well as a children's book conference. Readings, concerts, lectures, panel discussions and other special evening events throughout the month complete the program. University credit is available for many of the classes. The program runs July 11-August 8, 2003 and evening events are free and open to the public. Visit www.haystack.pdx.edu for further information about classes and public events or call 503-725-4186 or 800-547-8887, ext 4186.

Summer is an event in nature's air-conditioned Cannon Beach. It's a hubbub of people-watching espresso-drinking vacationers strolling down lushly landscaped Hemlock Street in and out of people, shops and galleries in search of nothing, but usually finding something just the same. Meeting and greeting old and new friends, they pause for lunch - taking in a slice of gourmet pizza, a croissant deli sandwich, a salad, or bowl of chowder with fish & chips. Then down to the beach before a mid afternoon visit to the ice cream and candy store - all the while exposing film to capture the perfect vacation forever. Welcome to Cannon Beach!

Live Theater - Year-round at the Coaster Theater. Celebrating 31 years as one of the finest theatres in the Northwest, the Coaster Theater has consistently moved and entertained audiences with the charm and challenge of stage plays, concerts and art shows. For a complete schedule see the Coaster's Events page.

Lewis and Clark Bicentennial - From 1804 to 1806 the brave, adventuresome men of the Lewis and Clark Expedition were on a mission of discovery for the US Government charting the rivers, mountains and passes. Imagine their excitement upon reaching the Pacific Ocean. Stand where Clark stood 200 years ago trading with the resident Native Americans for whale blubber, right here in downtown Cannon Beach at the mouth of Ecola Creek. Visit the local website of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Assn

Concerts in the Park - Sponsored by the Cannon Beach Arts Association, this outdoor summer concert program is in its 17th season. Three concerts (all free) are scheduled for this summer - starting on the 4th of July at 1 pm with the Northcoast Symphonic Band. The other two concerts will be held Sunday Aug 17th and Sunday Aug 31st also at the bandshell in the downtown city park at Second and Spruce Streets from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy a music-filled afternoon in the park. Schedule.

Stormy Weather Arts Festival, the first full weekend of November, is Cannon Beach's fall celebration of the arts. Cannon Beach, home to many galleries and artists, comes alive with creativity. The galleries, shops, restaurants and motels all get in on the act - featuring musicians, artists, performances, and exhibits throughout town. Go to the Chamber page for more information.

Haystack Holidays - Thanksgiving thru New Years. Experience the Holidays, Cannon Beach Style. If you are from a metropolitan area, you know how frustrating it can be going out during the holiday season - always too many people and not enough parking. Avoid the hurried, harried city pace and come to Cannon Beach to enjoy relaxed, quality shopping, seasonal events, live theater, and fine restaurants surrounded by the beauty and charm of Cannon Beach, the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Range.
Events include:
Lamplighting, Christmas Tea and Fashion Show, Wreath Making, Pictures with Santa, Card Making, Carolers, Child's Play, and live at the renowned Coaster Theater - "1942 Christmas from Home" by Pat Kruis Tellinghusen.
Go to the Chamber page for more information.
