Sand sculpting is a great way to leave the thoughts of work behind. It's fun, it's free, and anybody can do it. Choose a plot of wet sand as the tide is headed out and let your imagination take over. (see photos)

The Beach

Cannon Beach is a very small town with a big beautiful sandy beach. The beach is a huge playground. You could fill your visit exploring. The number one attraction on the beach is Haystack Rock. This is a must. At low tide, tide pools abound between all the rock formations that surround Haystack Rock. To add education to the formula, check the calendar at www.cannon-beach.net/hrap for information and the schedule for Haystack Rock Awareness Program. Walking on the beach is great, but so is bicycling. Bring your own, or rent from Mike?s Bike. Three wheelers are popular and make a great family fun outing. The lower the tide, the better, (see tides) since you can get more places. At any low tide, you have several miles of beach to explore, but during lower tides, you have 7 miles of amazing exposed rocks, tidepools, wildlife and wonderment. See photos under the ?Haystack Rock?  category at www.cannon-beach.net/photolibrary.html.

Cannon Beach Rainforest

Another of the beauties of Cannon Beach is how the forest comes right down to the beach. Exploring the rainforest just east of town is a lesson in ancient history.  See photos under the ?Local Rainforest? category at www.cannon-beach.net/photolibrary.html. The rainforest can be appreciated no matter what the weather.

Downtown

Downtown Cannon Beach is a small compact grouping of shops, galleries, restaurants, motels and the city park. Kids love to play in the park, then go for ice cream or candy and a souvenir t-shirt or sweatshirt. The park includes a playground, ball field, tennis courts, skateboard park and basketball hoops. Ice cream, candy, and souvenir shirts are available in various locations within a two minute walk of the park. See photos under the ?Downtown? category at www.cannon-beach.net/photolibrary.html.

Horseback Riding on the beach
