Beaches

sand stingrayEverybody loves the beach! Come take a long, lazy stroll. Build a sand castle. Study the tidepools at Haystack Rock. Get a tan. Ride a beach buggy. Wade. Swim. Catch a sunset. Fly a kite. Throw a Frisbee. Walk the dog (follow all leash laws). Take some photos. Have a family outing. Bring a picnic.

Please be safe while you enjoy our beautiful beaches. Teach your children beach safety rules and make sure they understand them. Don't turn your back on the surf. Sudden "sneaker" or "creeper" waves are common. Many have enough force to knock you down. kids in cars on beachKnow when high tide is scheduled and don't get caught on a rock, in a cave or other area where you cannot get back to the beach when the tide rises. During winter and stormy weather, watch for logs and large pieces of driftwood in the surf. Never, ever try to "ride" these logs as they can roll, pinning you beneath.

sunsetBecause of the way the headlands reach the water at certain points, there are several distinct beaches, including Cannon Beach, Ecola Beach, Indian Beach and Crescent Beach.
